Student Matinees - Pacific Northwest Ballet

Student Matinees

Student Matinees

Throughout the season, school groups can attend matinees, and arrange for pre and post performance workshops.

PNB is committed to honoring our performance schedule and will not cancel performances or refund purchases for any circumstance. In the event that your school district is unable to attend due to a district mandated weather delay or cancellation, we will work with the group leader to accommodate your group in a future school matinee performance in the same season.

*PNB student matinees are reserved for groups of 15 or more school students, not including chaperones, in grades Pre-K through 12. Student matinees are subsidized with the goal of introducing as many children as possible to our productions; we work to ensure tickets are being maximized by students. Your school group should consist of many more students than chaperones. In some circumstances we allow a ratio of 1:1, typically for preschool groups.

Workshops

Pre-Performance Workshops — Grades PK–12

What do we look for in a dance performance? How do we make sense of it? This workshop prepares students for a meaningful experience at the theater. Through movement exploration, students investigate the elements of dance and composition as tools to support individual meaning making.

Post-Performance Workshops — Grades PK–12

What questions are sparked by seeing a performance? What discoveries have been made? What perspectives have been challenged? This workshop builds on students' viewing experiences as it promotes inquiry into meaning and deepens understanding of dance as a communicative art form. Workshops may take on various formants that may include movement, discussion and writing.
