The Costumes and Characters of Momotaro (The Peach Boy)
Momotaro (The Peach Boy), adapted by Jessica Lang and Kanji Segawa, is PNB’s latest addition to our family matinee series! Momotaro is based on the popular Japanese folktale that teaches us about bravery, resilience, compassion, and the value of trust and teamwork. Momotaro
Momotaro means “peach boy,” and Momotaro is a brave boy born from a peach! When Momotaro grows older and stronger, he goes on an adventure with three special animal friends to battle fearsome ogres.
Peaches
These cute peaches float down the winding river, accompanying Momotaro’s magical peach!
Forest Fairies
After growing up in his friendly village, Momotaro goes on an adventure to Ogre Island. The ogres who live there steal from his village. These wonderous Forest Fairies guide him on his trip!
Dog, Monkey, and Pheasant
Momotaro meets three new friends on his journey to Ogre Island: a sweet Dog, a friendly Monkey, and a handsome Pheasant. Each one agrees to help Momotaro fight the ogres if he gives them tasty dumplings called Kibi-Dango.
Star Fairies and Water Fairies
Momotaro must sail across the sea to reach Ogre Island. Guided by the Star Fairies and protected by the Water Fairies, he reaches his destination safely.
