New Works Initiative
Pacific Northwest Ballet’s New Works Initiative has facilitated the creation of nearly 150 new works since it was founded in 2005. As we’ve navigated the challenges of recent years, our commitment to new works has remained steady and strong. Our recent foray into digital performance demanded more creativity from choreographers, dancers, and staff than ever before.
Through generous donations from individuals and foundations, this initiative has lead to the creation of new works from choreographers like Donald Byrd, Alejandro Cerrudo, Jessica Lang, Edwaard Liang, Justin Peck, Crystal Pite, Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, and Twyla Tharp. In addition, our digital works have given us the opportunity to feature choreographers within the Company like Kyle Davis, Amanda Morgan, Miles Pertl, Price Suddarth, Leah Terada, and Dylan Wald.
These additions to our repertoire keep PNB at the forefront of advancing the ballet art form while inspiring dancers, donors, musicians, and audiences alike. As we look to the future, we hope to create opportunities for young choreographers, and especially those whose voices will add much-needed diversity to the landscape of dance. Gifts to the New Works Initiative cover costs for choreographers, lighting, costume and scenic designers, music, and other related expenses. The importance of the Initiative cannot be measured. It helps to define the artistic vision of PNB.
