Artist Biographies

Derek McLane is an award–winning scenic designer. He has designed over 350 productions on Broadway, off-Broadway, international and regional, and television. He has been credited with opera and theatre designs in London, Paris, Dublin, Glasgow, Moscow, Shanghai, Krakow, Sydney, and Warsaw. McLane is the winner of OBIE, Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, Art Director’s Guild, EMMY®, and Tony® awards. McLane’s current shows include: Moulin Rouge!, MJ the Musical, Death Becomes Her, and Just In Time.

A celebrated choreographer of her generation, Jessica Lang is Resident Choreographer of Pacific Northwest Ballet and Artist in Residence at Sarasota Ballet. She has created over 115 original works on companies worldwide including American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, PNB, The Royal Ballet, Vienna State Ballet and her eponymous company Jessica Lang Dance of which Lang was Artistic Director from 2011-2019. For opera, Lang has directed and choreographed Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater for Glimmerglass; choreographed Aida for San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera (WNO), Seattle Opera, LA Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago; and choreographed Salome for Des Moines Metro Opera. In 2024, Lang co-choreographed with Kanji Segawa WNO’s new production of Turandot, directed by Francesca Zambello.

Kanji Segawa was a dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from 2011–2023 and became Assistant Rehearsal Director for the company in 2024. Originally from Kanagawa, Japan, Segawa is a former member of Ailey II, Battleworks, and danced extensively for Mark Morris. Since 1999, Segawa has worked with Jessica Lang, assisting her creations for companies worldwide including American Ballet Theatre, PNB, The Royal Ballet, and The National Ballet of Japan.

Nicole Pearce is a multidisciplinary artist living in Queens, NY. Her work has been seen internationally in Europe, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, and Russia. Notable works include Mark Morris’ The Look of Love, Molly Smith’s Catch Me If You Can, and Jessica Lang’s Children’s Songs with American Ballet Theatre. Her installation of 1,000 paintings entitled Tiny Paintings for Big Hearts is open to doctors, nurses, staff, and patients of Elmhurst Hospital in Elmhurst, NY.

Tony Bennett (1926–2023) was an American jazz singer. Over his lifetime, Bennett sold more than 50 million records worldwide and received accolades including a Kennedy Center Honor, The Gershwin Prize, and was an NEA Jazz Master. Bennett is also known for his humanitarian efforts including marching with Dr. King from Selma to Montgomery in 1965. Bennett and his wife, Susan, founded Exploring the Arts program for public high school education.

Wes Gordon serves as the Creative Director of Carolina Herrera New York. Raised in Atlanta, Gordon attended Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London. Upon graduation in 2009, the designer moved to New York City to launch his eponymous line of womenswear and presented his collection in New York from 2010–2016. During this time, Gordon received the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award and was a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
