While hunting, Prince Ivan strays into the magical, enchanted realm of the sorcerer Kastchei. He chases and captures the Firebird. The Firebird pleads for her life; Ivan spares her, and she gives him a magical, glowing feather that can be used to summon her for protection.
Ivan discovers nine princesses held captive by Kastchei, and he falls in love with one of them. Kastchei’s monsters capture Ivan. He uses the feather to summon the Firebird, who forces the monsters and Kastchei to dance themselves into a deep sleep.
Following the Firebird’s guidance, Ivan destroys a magical egg containing Kastchei’s soul. Kastchei dies, his spell is broken, and Ivan marries the princess.
