A partnership between Pacific Northwest Ballet and Spectrum Dance Theatre, REACH is a unique dance workshop program, offered in two independent 8-week sessions for students ages 11-15. Participants collaborate with local dance artists to create and perform new pieces of choreography. Each session explores a different dance style and culminates in a performance on stage at McCaw Hall! REACH offers a supportive environment and unique opportunities for students both new to and experienced in dance.  All dance experience and ability levels welcome.

Fall Session, 2015

The Fall REACH session, Contemporary Jazz with Davione Gordon, will blend traditional/classical jazz dance, jazz funk and lyrical jazz. Warm ups, center work and progressions include a focus on isolation and rhythm, stretch and strengthening and knowledge of contemporary and classic jazz steps and choreography. Davione Gordon is a native of Fort Washington, MD. He started his dance training at the age of 14 at Thomas Pullen Middle School of the Performing Arts. He later went to Suitland High School’s dance program, under the teachings of Mariana Lausic, Linda Darr, and Barbara Marks. He has also trained and worked with several programs such as Dance Theatre of Harlem Residency Program and Debbie Allen Dance Academy. He studied dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, were he also performed with companies such as Eleone Dance Theatre and DanceSpora. Since moving to Seattle, Davione has been a guest artist for Tacoma City Ballet, Evergreen Ballet, Burlesque shows through the Triple Door/CanCan, and freelance choreographers in the city. He began his apprenticeship with Spectrum Dance Theater in 2013 and is currently in his second season with Spectrum.

The Winter REACH session, Contemporary Dance with Adriana Hernandez, is designed to introduce technical, choreographic, and performance aspects of dance. Designed for dancers of all levels and based in contemporary dance, this session will enhance the understanding and engagement of how dance is learned, created, and then presented to an audience. Born in Southern California Adriana Hernandez grew up in Tijuana, Mexico. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts with a BFA in Dance in 2013. She has worked with Iyun Ashani Harrison, Mary Sheldon Scott, Anna Conner, Ktisk Contemporary Dance, Alyza DelPan-Monley, Alicia Mullikin, and other artists in Seattle, San Diego, and Mexico. Her choreographic work has been presented through On the Boards North West New Works 2015, Velocity Dance Center’s Bridge Project 2015, at Cornish College of the Arts, and Southwestern Community College where she also received the Outstanding Dancer/Choreographer Scholarship. Currently, Adriana works as a Teaching Artist for Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Community Education Programs where she teaches creative movement in public schools.  She researches and experiments with movement through choreography and teaching creative movement.


$125 per session or $200 for both sessions
